Wisconsin Adoption & Permanency Support maintains a list of mental health professionals who have either:

  • Significant training and/or experience in trauma, attachment, foster care and adoption issues
  • Been recommended by an adoption or permanency professional
  • Been recommended by a family

For a short guide to choosing a therapist, click here.

You may filter the directory by city, age of client accepted, insurance accepted, etc. Please keep in mind that insurance coverage is always changing, and it is always best to call and talk with the mental health professional’s office directly to confirm. Always feel free to contact us for direction in choosing someone who may be a good fit for your family.

You will notice that one of the categories notes whether a professional is “TAC-Trained.” Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) is a post-Master’s curriculum designed by C.A.S.E. (The Center for Adoption Support & Education) with the assistance of a National Advisory Board of adoption experts. Through classroom and remote instruction as well as clinical case consultation, TAC students master 18 areas of knowledge, values and skills that are critical to adoption-competent mental health services. If a professional listed here has been trained in TAC, you will see that noted in the appropriate section. For a full list of TAC-Trained Professionals, you may view TAC’s national directory.

If you are a professional who is interested in being listed in the directory, you may apply online here.
